Susan Snyder is a Hoosier at heart and an Italian artist by training.
Her ceramic maiolica pieces can be seen in the upcoming book “The Best of 500 Ceramics.”
“My work is inspired by traditional design but it’s also re-interpreted, sometimes bringing in more modern things with that,” she said.
A Bloomington native, Snyder went away for college but transferred to Indiana University, where she participated in the study abroad program in Bologna for the 1992-1993 school year.
She graduated with a degree in art history with minors in Italian and ceramics. She would later become the second American to attend a ceramics trade school in Faenza. Locals directed her to the city, where ceramics and people who breathed the art surrounded her, she said.
