I attended my first clay class in 1977 and started making pottery professionally in 1979. Most of my work is functional and I am constantly looking for a balance between a pot that is exciting enough to catch the eye but subtle enough to still be appreciated after years of use. Form, to me, is very important. I work in both stoneware and porcelain and for the past nineteen years have fired all my work in a wood- kiln. I grew up in rural, coastal England and feel that my work reflects this. As Pascal Mercier said. ‘We are where we have been’ and by extension, my work is also where I have been.
I am a member of By Hand Gallery, a co-operative fine craft gallery inside Fountain Square, Bloomington IN.
